1. Relax on the Stunning Beaches of Santa Ponsa
In Santa Ponsa you can visit the local beach, Platja de Santa Ponsa, which is about half a kilometer long and quite wide, giving lots of room to spread out. The beach has all the important amenities like lifeguards, washrooms, sun loungers with umbrellas, and snack bars. There is even a small pine forest nearby, where you can find shade from the hot sun.
The beach is made of fine white sand, has a gentle slope and the water is crystal clear, great for kids, and ideal for swimming and snorkeling. It’s located right in the center of Santa Ponsa, and close to several restaurants, cafes, bars, and various shops. Equipment rentals are available at the beach for paddleboards, kayaks, and windsurfers, giving you all kinds of activities to choose from.

2. Explore Santa Ponsa’s History
Throughout Mallorca, you can find traces of various cultures spanning a couple of thousand years, and some of these can be found right in Santa Ponsa and the surrounding area. Its biggest historical importance lies in the fact that this area served as the landing point for the army of King James of Aragon in 1229 which was the decisive campaign that defeated the Moors in Mallorca and ended over 300 years of Muslim rule. At the entrance of the bay, there is a large cross commemorating this event.
On a local hill, just a short 15-minute walk from the beach is the Puig de sa Morisca where you can visit an archaeological site. You will also find the remains of an old pirate watch tower that overlooks the entire peninsula, the bay, the town, and the surrounding countryside. Well worth the walk to the top.

3. Water Sports and Adventure Activities
Santa Ponsa Bay is an excellent place for various watersports like paddleboarding, kayaking, and windsurfing. You will also find jet ski rentals, parasailing tours, and scuba diving shops where you can rent equipment, take courses, and sign up for dives. A great way to check out the coastline is with the many boat tours available in the Santa Ponsa area with tours taking off regularly from the local marinas and docks. These tours range from under an hour up to a full day and give you an opportunity to experience the island from a different perspective.
If you are into hiking, there are trails throughout the local hills and forests with some leading into the surrounding countryside and farmland. A great way to see the area is with a bike. There are bike paths throughout the town and the neighbouring villages making this an excellent and relaxing way to get around and explore the area. There are several rental shops in Santa Ponsa with rental rates ranging from hourly, to daily, and weekly.

4. Family-Friendly Fun in Santa Ponsa
There are some great family-friendly activities in Santa Ponsa and the surrounding area over and above the outdoor and water activities we just covered. First and foremost is the Jungle Parc which is custom-made for kids and families. It features a range of tree-top courses of varying difficulty levels, built with ropes, zip lines, and obstacles that challenge your balance, coordination, and nerve, great for both kids and adults. Another attraction is Katmandu Park in nearby Magaluf, which offers a variety of interactive rides, immersive games, and a house filled with optical illusions. It even has a splash park. For more water, you can visit Marineland Mallorca about 8km away in Portals Nous where you can see marine life shows.
5. Take A Wine Tour
Mallorca has a vibrant wine industry with vineyards scattered throughout the island and with many offering wine tastings and wine tours. Below is a list of some of the vineyards that you might find interesting. Included with each listing is a link to the websites where you can find out more and arrange bookings:
- Bodega Ribas – Located in Consell, this is one of the oldest wineries in Mallorca, offering tours and tastings.
- Bodegas Angel – Situated in Santa Maria del Camí, known for its beautiful setting and guided tours.
- Celler Tianna Negre – Also in Binissalem, offering a modern take on traditional Mallorcan wine-making.
- Son Prim – Located in Sencelles, this vineyard offers a more intimate tour experience.
- Macia Batle – In Santa Maria del Camí, famous for its comprehensive tours and tastings.
These vineyards are a bit of a drive from Santa Ponsa, but they offer a great opportunity to explore the wine culture of Mallorca. If you are unable to arrange transport to these vineyards, not too worry. The company “Sa Clasta” organizes wine tours and they take care of all of the logistics so that you can sit back and enjoy yourself. However way you choose to go, taking a wine tour is an excellent way to discover the local wines and find out more about Mallorca. That being said, nothing is stopping you from simply ordering Mallorcan wine with your next meal at one of the local restaurants in Santa Ponsa.
Full disclosure, I have no connection to the above wine companies and do not earn any money for referrals. I just love Mallorcan wine and feel good about supporting the local wine industry.

6. Nearby Day Trips and Excursions
Santa Ponsa is located near several great spots in Mallorca that you should definitely try to visit during your stay. Here are a few day trip suggestions for your consideration:
Day Trip Peguera
I’ve included Peguera since it’s a very nice location that is very close to Santa Ponsa, making it an easy day trip destination. You can take a quick taxi (it’s only 3km away) or rent a bike for a few hours. Peguera has 3 nice beaches that are all close by, with various beach bars and restaurants that you can visit for a nice little outing.

Palma de Mallorca
Palma de Mallorca is only 15km away and can be easily reached by public transport, TIB (or Transports de les Iles Balears – just follow the link for routes and bus schedules). I highly recommend visiting the Old Town, Bellver Castle, and “La Seu” cathedral. Bring a good pair of walking shoes, there’s lots to explore.

Parc Natural de Sa Dragonera
Head to Sant Elm where you can take a ferry across to the island which was designated a nature reserve. Here you can see diverse wildlife native to the island. Lots of trails to explore, a great outing for the family.

7. Seasonal Events and Festivals
Seasonal events in Santa Ponsa include the September “Fiesta
Rei en Jaume”, commemorating the landing of King James in Mallorca in 1229 which led to the recapture of the island from Muslim rule. The festival includes parades, performances, and historical reenactments.
During the summer there are several music festivals featuring live performances by artists and bands, entertainment for both locals and visitors. There are also various community events and fairs throughout the year. Visitors, young and old can participate in these fairs that include various activities, games to food tastings.
Tips and Best Time To Visit
If you enjoy hot weather and don’t mind bustling crowds, July and August in Spain are the perfect months to visit. That said, I’d personally suggest coming during the off-season, either in May/June or September/October. The weather remains lovely, but with fewer visitors, you’ll find activities, restaurants, museums, galleries, and other spots much calmer, giving you the chance to fully savor the island. Plus, you’ll often benefit from lower travel and accommodation costs during these months.
Regardless of when you come and which activities you do, make sure to bring sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Especially during the high season, you want to protect yourself from sunburn and you want to stay hydrated.
Santa Ponsa is a popular destination in Mallorca, Spain, so the tourist infrastructure there is quite strong with plenty of accommodations available, ranging from luxury hotels to youth hostels, and everything in between. To help you plan your next visit and to determine availability and price for the right accommodations, I’ve included a link below to assist. (For full disclosure, this is an affiliate link. You can search to your heart’s desire for free. And if it happens that you find that perfect spot and decide to book through this link, I will make a small commission. Don’t worry though, you won’t be paying a higher price because of the commission and it does help me to cover my costs).
