Day Trip Suggestions
Visit Palma: Old Town/Royal Palace/The Cathedral
- Consider taking a day trip to Palma to explore its “Old Town”, characterized by narrow streets and historic landmarks like the Almudaina Palace, the official royal residence of the Spanish royal family in Mallorca, the nearby Cathedral, and the Arab Baths. With plenty of cafes, shops, and markets to explore, it makes for a relaxing outing.
Tip: If you want to get some good pictures without hordes of people in your shot, try heading to the main sites early in the morning.

Visit Capdepera
- Capdepera is only about 2km from Cala Agulla and is home to one of the oldest medieval castles in the region. The castle is open to visitors daily from 10 am to 6 pm with admission around €4 per person (discounts also available for children and seniors). The castle tower offers excellent views of the island and the Mediterranean. You can also explore the town, stroll through its small winding streets, and visit one of the local cafes.

Visit Arta
- Located just a few kilometers away, Arta is definitely worth a visit. The Sanctuary on top of the hill provides an excellent view over the town and surrounding hills. This old town is mainly untouched by tourism and offers an authentic Mallorcan experience.

Visit Alcudia
The old town has a remarkably well-preserved medieval wall, among the best in the Balearic Islands. Some sections are still accessible for walking, and we walked along a nearly 400-meter continuous stretch. The town features a large pedestrian area with narrow cobblestone streets lined with shops, cafes, and local markets. Weekly farmers’ markets are held on Tuesdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. At only 10km from Can Picafort, this is a great day trip destination.

Best Time to Visit and Travel Tips
Peak Tourist Season
The island’s peak tourist season falls in July and August, coinciding with school holidays in much of Northern Europe. As crowds head to the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands, it can get quite busy. To ensure a smooth trip, make sure to plan ahead and secure your accommodations, rental cars, flights, and tours well in advance.
Tip: For a more relaxed experience, consider visiting in May/June, or in September/October. The weather is still great, and you’ll avoid the large crowds. In fact, we recently hit Playa de Muro in Can Picafort in late September, and with temperatures at 28°C, the conditions were perfect.
Transportation options
- Flying: Can Picafort is about 50 km northeast of Palma Airport which serves both domestic and International flights.
- Transport on Mallorca: Taxis are readily available throughout the island, and car rentals are a good option as well. Additionally, the public transport company TIP (Transports de les Iles Balears) runs a network of bus routes connecting major towns, cities, and popular tourist spots across the island.
Accommodations
The tourist infrastructure in Mallorca is well developed so there is no shortage of accommodations in the area. These range from luxurious beachfront resorts to budget-friendly youth hostels and guesthouses. Check out the link below for places available right now.
Book in Advance
I mentioned it above but it bears repeating, make sure to book well in advance, especially if you are planning to come during July and August. This basically goes for everything. Your best bet is to check online for available accommodations, car rentals, flights, restaurants, activities, and equipment and book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
