You can explore the coastline through various water activities like snorkeling and kayaking, giving you a chance to connect with nature. The area is surrounded by trails and paths that will take along the coastline, into the countryside, or through the various Mallorcan villages and towns. Cala Romantica gives a perfect getaway where you can unwind and explore at your own pace.

Discovering Cala Romantica’s Beaches
The beach at Cala Romantica is picture-perfect. Here you will find a white sand beach that drops off slowly into the bay. The beach is surrounded by rocky cliffs that protect the beach and provide a beautiful backdrop to the “Cala”. If you are looking for a picturesque beach where you can just lay down on the sand and spend all day just relaxing and unwinding then this beach is for you. With the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean and with a beach bar and amenities nearby you can unwind and rest to your heart’s desire. This is what a Mediterranean beach vacation is all about.

Top Outdoor Adventures and Activities
When you’re done relaxing you have tons of activities to choose from to keep yourself busy. In the summer, the calm waters of the Mediterranean and the rocky cliffs surrounding the bay create an ideal setting for snorkeling, paddle boarding, and kayaking. For some activities mentioned below, consult local tour operators for schedules and fees. Additionally, equipment for many activities can be rented at the beach, local shops, or from local tour operators.
- Paddle Boarding: Enjoy the calm waters while standing on a board and paddling along the coastline. It’s a peaceful way to navigate and enjoy the surrounding views.
- Kayaking: Venture out on the water using a kayak, paddling at your own pace. Both kayaking and paddle boarding mentioned above are great beginner sports. This activity allows you to explore small coves and hidden areas along the shore.
- Hiking: Explore the trails that wind through the nearby countryside. Walkers can experience varied landscapes and enjoy the natural environment.
- Boat Tours: This is a great way to explore the area. Take a boat tour along the coastline and learn about the area’s history and geography while enjoying the sea. Tip: take a tour that has snorkeling or kayaking as an added activity and visit the best spots you wouldn’t normally see on your own, including some hidden coves or even caves.
- Beachcombing: This was my favorite when I was traveling with my kids. It’s an easy activity to coordinate with kids and a perfect option for cloudy or rainy days.
- Swimming: I shouldn’t have to mention this one because I think it goes without saying. But if you came all the way to Mallorca to “not swim” in the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean, then I don’t understand the universe anymore.
- Biking: Mallorca is a popular place for cyclists and there are many designated paths or roads that you can take. This is a great way to explore the area.
- Rock Climbing: Climb natural rock formations found near the area. This activity challenges your skills and offers a different perspective of the landscape.
- Photography: Make sure you bring your camera. The area is rich with photo-worthy opportunities, whether it’s taking photos of the landscape, seascape, or whatever else catches your eye.
- Beach Hopping: If you get restless, you can take a short walk to one of the other two beaches nearby to get a change of scenery. Cala Mendia and Cala Anguila are only about 1km away and are definitely worth checking out.

- Snorkeling: Explore the marine life and rock formations in this “Cala”. You can swim through clear waters and see local fish and other sea creatures.
Note: When snorkeling, it’s important to maintain a respectful distance from marine life and avoid touching or disturbing them. This helps preserve their natural habitat and ensures a safe and enjoyable experience for both you and the creatures you encounter.

Visit Local Vineyards
Mallorca’s wine industry is rooted in centuries of tradition going as far back as the Roman era. The vineyards are spread across the island and produce a diverse range of wines. The local winemakers use indigenous grape varieties that offer unique flavors and characteristics, providing a distinct taste of the region. While in Cala Romantica, take the opportunity to visit one of the local vineyards and discover these local wines for yourself. Tasting the wines allows you to experience the island’s rich history and the craftsmanship that goes into every bottle, making it a worthwhile exploration for any wine enthusiast.
Here are three vineyards near Cala Romantica where you can enjoy wine tastings or tours:
- Bodega Ribas (Visit Bodega Ribas)
Bodega Ribas offers a tour that includes a walk through the vineyard and a tasting session. Visitors can learn about the winemaking process and enjoy a selection of wines paired with local delicacies. - Macia Batle (Visit Macia Batle)
At Macia Batle, guests can explore the winery and participate in a guided tasting of various wines. The experience includes insights into the production techniques and the opportunity to purchase wines directly from the cellar. - Bodegas Jose L Ferrer (Visit Bodegas Jose L Ferrer)
Bodegas Jose L Ferrer provides a comprehensive tour that covers the vineyard and the wine production facilities. The visit concludes with a tasting session featuring several wines, accompanied by local snacks.

Tapas Tour
“‘Ir de tapas’ is a social tradition in Spain where individuals move from bar to bar, relishing small plates of various dishes, called tapas, typically paired with drinks. It’s a casual and communal method to experience a wide range of flavors and appreciate the local culinary scene. You can taste a range of modern tapas, including patatas bravas, jamon iberico, and fresh seafood.”

Day Trip Suggestions
Visit Arta
This old town is mainly untouched by tourism and offers an authentic Mallorcan experience. Located just a few kilometers away, Arta is definitely worth a visit. The Sanctuary on top of the hill provides an excellent view over the town and surrounding hills.

Visit Capdepera
Capdepera is only about 20km from Cala Romantica and is home to one of the oldest medieval castles in the Balearic Islands. The castle tower offers excellent views of the island and the Mediterranean. You can also explore the town, stroll through its small winding streets, and visit one of the local cafes.
Note: The castle is open to visitors daily from 10 am to 6 pm with admission of around €4 per person (discounts also available for children and seniors).

Visit Palma: Old Town/Royal Palace/The Cathedral
You can take a day trip to Palma and explore the city’s old town. It features narrow streets and historic buildings such as the Almudaina Palace (the official royal residence on Mallorca of the Spanish royal family), the Cathedral (right near the palace), and the Arab Baths. There are tons of cafes, shops, and markets to visit making it a great outing. For history buffs especially, without having to move further than a kilometer in any direction you can visit various historical periods in one outing.

Best Time to Visit and Travel Tips
Peak Tourist Season in Cala Romantica
The peak tourist season on the island is during July and August when most regions of Northern Europe have their school breaks. With everybody heading to the Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands at the same time, it does get busy so be prepared, plan ahead, and book accommodations, rental cars, plane tickets, and tours well in advance.
Tip: If you are looking for a less hectic experience, you might want to consider traveling in May/June or in Sept/October. The weather is still exceptionally nice and you can escape the large crowds. In fact, we just visited the beach towards the end of September and the temperature was 28C making for an excellent beach day.

Transportation options
- Flying: Cala Romantica is about 50 km east of Palma Airport which serves both domestic and International flights.
- Transport on Mallorca: Taxis can be found all over the island, car rentals are also available and there is also the public transport company TIP (or Transports de les Iles Balears), which operates a network of bus routes that services major towns, cities and popular tourist destinations across the island.
Accommodations
Accommodations are available in Cala Mendia, Cala Romantica, and Cala Anguila. The tourist infrastructure in the area is well developed so there is no shortage of accommodations in the area. These range from luxurious beachfront resorts to budget-friendly youth hostels and guesthouses. Check out the link above for places available right now.

Book in Advance
I mentioned it above but it bears repeating, make sure to book well in advance, especially if you are planning to come during July and August. This basically goes for everything. Your best bet is to check online for available accommodations, car rentals, flights, restaurants, activities, and equipment and book as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
