WHAT ARE THE 8 BEST THINGS TO DO IN POLLENSA MALLORCA?
1. Explore Pollensa Old Town
We recently visited Pollensa after finishing a road trip through the Serra Tramuntana mountains last fall. The weather was nice and we spent a few hours walking around the old section of town, checked out some of the many shops, and stopped in the town square for a coffee. There were plenty of restaurants and cafes to choose from, and after our long drive, it was nice to just sit down, relax and enjoy the quiet atmosphere. Overlooking the tree-lined plaza was the Church of Our Lady of the Angels.
This large and beautiful structure added to the serene atmosphere. The outside is simple in its design and had us second-guessing ourselves about going inside. However, looks can be deceiving and we were completely awestruck by what we found inside: ornate sculptures, beautiful artwork, and a grandiose internal structure. Definitely worth visiting.
2. Climb the Calvary Steps
Not too far from the church is the start of the Calvary Steps. These steps involve walking up a total of 365 steps to the Chapel of Calvary. This takes you through another beautiful section of town with old stone buildings and various trees on both sides providing shade for the climb. This is not an Ironman challenge, but this is still quite a climb if you are older or out of shape. But if you take your time and go at a slow pace, you will eventually reach the top where you will find the chapel. From this vantage point, you have a nice view overlooking the town and the surrounding hills.

3. Relax at Port de Pollensa
Right nearby is the town of Port de Pollensa which is directly on the Mediterranean, only 5km away. You can reach it by foot but I recommend renting a bike so that you can explore the town itself and bike along the bay that has a bike path directly on the water and will take you all the way to Alcudia another 5km further.
In Port de Pollensa there is a beautiful tree-lined promenade that runs the entire length of the town past a couple of beaches and a marina. The beaches are made of white sand and the water is crystal clear, an excellent place for a beach day. There are several rental shops where you can rent kayaks, paddleboards, or even windsurfing equipment. During windy conditions, this bay is an excellent place for both windsurfing and kitesurfing.

4. Hike in the Tramuntana Mountains
During our road trip through the Serra de Tramuntana, we stopped in a small village called Estellencs to do some sightseeing. We did a small one-hour hike along one of the trails leading from town and heading down to the Mediterranean and back. The trail was short but the views were spectacular and definitely worth it. Throughout the mountains, there are over a hundred trails of various lengths and difficulty for all ages and abilities. If you are up for a challenge there is one trail that covers a total of 145 km.

At one point during the drive, we passed by a couple of mountain lakes. We made a second stop and this time just hiked around the edge of the lake. It was very scenic with the mountains all around. Hiking is a popular sport in Mallorca and we met all kinds of people out walking the trails, some with full hiking gear and some with just a good pair of walking shoes. Tip: If you are going to go for a hike, make sure to bring a map, water, and sunscreen.

5. Wine Tours near Pollensa
It may come as a surprise, but the weather in Mallorca is ideal for making wine: Mediterranean climate, sunny days, and a cool sea breeze. There are local grape varieties, like Mantonegor and Callet, which are native to Mallorca and do quite well on the island. These local grapes have been used successfully in creating some great Mallorcan wines that have grown in popularity internationally over the last several years. Within a short distance from Pollensa are several vineyards that have wine tours and wine tastings, which are a great way to discover some of the local wines and a unique way to experience the island of Mallorca.
Vineyards Near Pollensa Offering Wine Tours
- Bodega Mortitx – Located in the Tramuntana mountains, this vineyard combines dramatic landscapes with guided tours and tastings.
- Can Vidalet – A short drive from Pollensa, it offers tours of their winery along with tastings of their wines and olive oils.
- Son Brull Boutique Winery – Part of a luxury hotel, this vineyard presents a blend of winemaking and local tradition.
- Bodega Son Campaner – Known for its range of wines made with Mallorcan grape varieties, it provides tours and tastings.
- Macià Batle – Located slightly further away but worth the trip, this popular winery offers a comprehensive tour of its production process and cellar.

7. Discover Nearby Beaches
Pollenca is ideally located for visiting several popular beaches on Mallorca including the beaches we mentioned earlier in Port de Pollensa. One of my favorites is Cala Sant Vicenc which is only about 5km away and is one of only a few beaches on the northeast side of the island which is mostly mountainous. The town is located on one of the few low spots and has three small sandy beaches with a gradual slope and crystal clear waters. They are small and can be a little busy during the summer but the views are spectacular. When you are done swimming you can have a coffee or a meal at one of several cafes and restaurants that overlook the bay.
A little further away but also quite nice is Cala Formentor, which has a beautiful sand beach with crystal clear waters. This beach faces the Bay de Polensa and has a beautiful view of the Victoria Peninsula on the other side. Part of the fun with Cala Formentor is the car ride there. The road leading to Cala Formentor takes you up into the mountains through some winding and twisting roads with exceptional views out over the sea.

8. Sample Local Cuisine
There are a few dishes that I recommend that everyone try during their stay on the island. Of course, it goes without saying that the selection of fish is excellent so you should definitely try the different seafood dishes that you will find at virtually every restaurant on the island. But aside from this, there are a few Mallorcan specialties that you should try as well:
- Tumbet: This traditional Mallorcan dish features layers of fried vegetables like eggplant, potatoes, and bell peppers, topped with a rich tomato sauce. It’s a flavorful vegetarian option often served as a side or main dish.
- Sobrasada: A cured sausage made from ground pork, paprika, and spices, sobrasada is a staple in Mallorcan cuisine. Its soft, spreadable texture makes it perfect for enjoying on bread or as a topping for various dishes.
- Ensaimada: This sweet pastry, characterized by its spiral shape and fluffy texture, is a beloved treat in Mallorca. Often dusted with powdered sugar, it can be enjoyed plain or filled with ingredients like cream or chocolate.
