These range from tiny sand beaches in secluded cloves to white sand beaches that seem to go on forever. With approximately 200 beaches on the island, there is definitely one to suit everyone’s taste. The longest beaches are Es Trenc and Playa de Alcudia, both of which are wide white sand beaches with crystal clear waters that are perfect for families and for various water sports like kayaking and paddle boarding.
Dotted across the islands are dozens of smaller beaches in hidden coves along the Mediterranean coastline. Some are easily accessible and quite busy in the summer, while others are a little more out of the way and offer a little more peace and quiet. 3. Historical Landmarks
Mallorca has been inhabited for thousands of years and is home to hundreds of various historical landmarks. In Palma, there is the main cathedral known as “La Seu” which overlooks both the city and the Mediterranean. This Gothic structure was built between the 13th and 17th centuries and is a true architectural jewel. At the northernmost point of the Island is the lighthouse of Cap de Formentor which was built in 1863 on top of the cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean. The road to the lighthouse alone is an adventure in itself. Once there, you can walk along some of the trails that wind through the mountains and along the coast that are popular with hikers.
The town of Alcudia is surrounded by a medieval wall that you can walk along the top of, and there is also a Roman amphitheater that you can visit which is a reminder of its past history as a Roman colony. And if all of this is still too recent for you, there are over 400 megalithic stone structures left behind by the pre-roman Talayotic culture that you can visit as well, one of which is located right in the middle of S’Illot (Poblat Talaiotic de s’Illot).

4. Nature and Hiking Trails
During our recent trip to Mallorca, we spent a couple of days in the Serra de Tramuntana to visit Port de Soller and Deia. From both these small towns we took some short hikes along the local trails into the surrounding hills: the views were spectacular. Unfortunately we weren’t up to the more challenging trails on this visit but we are definitely considering it for our next trip. There is a wide selection of trails to choose from, with varying lengths and varying difficulty so as long as you do a little research, you will find the right trails that match your abilities and give you the best hiking experience possible.
On the northeast side of the island, near Playa de Muro, is the Albufera Natural Park, a popular bird sanctuary with trails and lookout points where you can see a wide variety of local birds and plant species. Further east on the island is the Llevant Peninsula Natural Park, with trails running through the park hills and along the Mediterranean. There are several secluded beaches in this park so make sure to bring a swimsuit and towel if you are hiking these trails during the summer.

5. Mallorca Nightlife
Mallorca is a popular party destination and if this is your main objective then you won’t be disappointed. One of the main destinations is Magaluf which is famous for its beach clubs and night clubs attracting thousands of tourists every summer. If you are looking for entertainment that is a little more “dialed back” there are tons of bars and clubs in Palma where you can find live dance and music. In most of the other towns at the various beach destinations, you will also find dance clubs and bars. These won’t be as “over the top” as in Magaluf but entertaining just the same.

6. Unique Experiences
For a different experience on Mallorca, you can visit the island of Sa Dragonera which is designated a nature reserve. It can only be accessed by boat and is home to a natural park that showcases a variety of bird species, wildlife, and plants that can only be found on this island. Another unique activity is to visit the island’s sea caves. You can join an organized tour that will provide transport, equipment, and guides to some of the sea caves located around the island.
One of my favorite activities is to go on a winery tour. Mallorca has a thriving wine industry and several vineyards on the island have organized wine tours and wine tastings. These are a great opportunity to not only taste the local wines but to learn about the industry firsthand. Below is a list of some of the vineyards that have wine tours with a link to their websites.
