WHY VISIT CALA ANGUILA MALLORCA?
1. What Makes Cala Anguila Special?
Mallorca is a popular vacation destination for millions of visitors every year and one of the biggest draws are its beaches. What makes Cala Aguila special? Cala Aguila is one of a series of coves, or calas, on Mallorca that are arguably its most identifiable and sought-after “trademark”: the beautiful white sand beaches nestled in beautiful coves and protected by rocky cliffs along this rugged section of the Mallorcan coast.
This beach is located on the eastern side of the island just south of Porto Cristo and directly beside its sister beaches, Cala Mendia and Cala Romantica (click on the links to read more about these other two beaches). Cala Anguila is protected from the open sea, the water is crystal clear and the beach is made of soft white sand. The water is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, and paddleboarding and is ideal for families, couples, and solo travelers.

2. How to Get to Cala Anguila
Cala Anguila is only 3km south of Porto Cristo and can be reached easily by car. You can also take a public transit bus (operated by Transports de les Iles Balears) and get off at Porto Cristo. Bus line 401 will take you to the center of town, but for the last 3 km to the beach, you will have to take a taxi. If you are driving to the beach during the high season, make sure to arrive early to be sure of getting a parking spot.
TIP: The island bus company, TIB (click here for routes and schedules), operates a network of bus routes that services major towns, cities, and popular tourist destinations across the island, making this a great option if you want to travel to other locations on the island.
3. Best Activities at Cala Anguila
The most popular activities at Cala Anguila are sunbathing, swimming and snorkeling. The beach is surrounded by rocky cliffs and the water is turquoise with a sandy bottom, perfect for most water activities. And if you are a little more adventurous, you can rent a kayak or paddleboard and explore more of the coastline and the other nearby beaches. If you follow the coastline northward about 300m you will find an impressive cave with amazing acoustics, only accessible by water.
From Cala Anguila you can follow a trail or walk through a residential area to Cala Mendia. From there you can keep going to Cala Romantica, about a km away. At Cala Anguila, there are lifeguard services during the high season and a restaurant right at the beach. More restaurants and stores are just a 400m walk away on the main street in town.

4. Where to Stay Near Cala Anguila
Accommodations are available in Cala Mendia, Cala Romantica, and Cala Anguila. The tourist infrastructure in the area is well developed so there is no shortage of accommodations in the area. These range from luxurious beachfront resorts to budget-friendly youth hostels and guesthouses.

5. Dining Options Around Cala Anguila
As with most places on the island, seafood features prominently at the top of most menus, so if you love seafood you won’t be disappointed. There are also several local Mallorcan delicacies that you should definitely try while in the area like ensaimada (a sweet pastry), sobrasada (a cured sausage), and tumbet (a traditional vegetable dish made with layers of fried potatoes and other vegetables).
Here is a list of a few restaurants nearby that you can visit during your stay:

6. Nearby Attractions You Can’t-Miss
While in this corner of the island, there are a few attractions that you may want to consider during your visit. The beautiful town of Porto Cristo is right nearby and is a great destination to explore. There are lots of restaurants and shops to check out and you can also visit the harbor area as well.

You may want to consider taking a boat tour from Porto Cristo and exploring the Mediterranean and the island’s coastline. Tours range from less than an hour to the whole day, with some tours including snorkeling, kayaking, or paddleboarding as part of the trip.
Another activity to consider is a visit to the local caves, either Drack Caves or Hams Caves, where you can take tours underground and see various geological rock formations. I took the kids a few years ago and this was definitely a great family activity.

7. Best Time to Visit Cala Anguila Mallorca
The best time to visit this beach is during the off-season, in May/June or September/October. The weather is still exceptionally nice during this time and it is far less crowded. If you don’t mind the crowds, then the best time for you is July and August. However, make sure to plan ahead, get to the beach early, and be prepared for a close and personal experience. The summer is absolutely the high season here, no questions about that.
TIP: Make sure to bring suntan lotion and drink lots of water. The sun is extremely strong on the Mediterranean and you can burn very quickly if you are not careful. One activity that catches a lot of people off-guard is snorkeling. While snorkeling your back and shoulders are mostly out of the water and are fully exposed to the sun. Wear a T-shirt and lots of sunscreen and you should be OK.
