The Beauty of Alcudia Beach

Alcudia Beach is located on the northeast coast of Mallorca on Alcudia Bay. It stretches over 7 kilometers from end to end. The sand is fine and light, the water is clear and shallow, and it’s wide enough to provide room for everyone. Even during busy times, there is room enough for everybody. From every point on the beach, you are looking out over the Mediterranean Sea, with impressive mountains at both ends, adding a natural contrast to the shoreline.

During the summer, the waters are calm, the sun is hot, and the conditions are perfect for an incredible beach vacation. There is a reason why hoards of tourists come here every year, making this pilgrimage year after year.

Is Alcudia Beach Family Friendly?

If you are wondering if the waters on Alcudia Beach are safe for kids, the answer is yes (Of course, with proper parental supervision as well). During the summer, there are lifeguards on duty. The waters are calm and shallow, with no tides or undercurrents. I spent a few weeks with my two sons at Playa de Muro and at Can Picafort, and with a few inflatable toys, a couple of sand shovels, and some children’s snorkeling gear, the kids had hours of nonstop fun in the water.

Of course, if there is not enough water in the Mediterranean to satisfy the kids, then you can also take them to the nearby water park in Port d’Alcudia, “Hidropark”. The park has water slides, pools, and activities catered towards families and groups. There are various towns along the length of the beach with tons of shops, restaurants, and cafes to choose from. There are also convenient change rooms and other facilities at various points along the beach, making your beach stay as comfortable as possible for you and your family.

Dining and Entertainment Around Alcudia Beach

As mentioned above, there are all kinds of restaurants and snack bars along the length of the beach and in the various towns along its shore, like Alcudia, Playa de Muro, and Can Picafort. During your stay, make sure to try some of the traditional Mallorcan dishes that you will find in most of the restaurants on the island. This includes a large selection of seafood, which features quite prominently on most menus in Mallorca.

There is also a large selection of international restaurants as well so you can try different cooking styles during your stay as well. There is also a large selection of beach bars and cafes where you can just simply have a drink and watch the world go by, whether during the day or in the evenings. For those looking for livelier entertainment, you won’t be disappointed. Although not over the top like in other areas of the island, there are discos and dance clubs in the main towns that cater to a younger crowd or those looking to cut loose a little.

Day Trip Ideas

Several places within a short distance from Alcudia Bay are great day trip destinations if you are looking to experience a little bit more of the island. Here are a few suggestions for you to consider:

The Caves of Porto Cristo

In Porto Cristo are a series of caves that are a major attraction on the island. The caves have various impressive rock formations, stalactites, and stalagmites,  and they feature an underground lake as well. After exploring the caves, you can walk around the port town of Porto Cristo and check out the shops and restaurants along the harbor.

Alcudia

Located at the northeast end of Alcudia Bay, the town of Alcudia. The town is almost completely surrounded by an exceptionally well-preserved medieval wall, complete with towers and a moat. You can even walk along sections of the wall, overlooking both the city and the surrounding countryside. Here, you can explore sites like the Roman Theater and the Church of St. Jaume. A big draw for the town is the farmers market, which takes place within the walls of the city, where you can buy handmade crafts, baked goods, and locally prepared meats and cheeses.

Ermita de la Victoria Retreat

Just a few kilometers from Alcudia, on the Victoria Peninsula, is the chapel of Ermita de la Victoria. The old stone building used to be a convent and now serves as a peaceful retreat for visitors looking for some peace and quiet. There are accomodations on the top floor of the chapel and a small restaurant nearby with spectacular views of the Bay of Pollensa.  Trails lead from the chapel into the surrounding hills and down along the coast.

While it retains its historical significance as a former hermitage and religious site, it is now a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, often used for sightseeing, hiking, cultural events, and gatherings. If you are looking for a quiet experience that is in stark contrast to the normal beach holiday destinations, then you will love this place.

Alcudia Beach Accommodations—Where Should You Stay?

Tourism is the main industry on this part of the island, and this is reflected in the wide selection of accommodations available. The region offers a variety of beachfront hotels, ranging from high-end resorts to more affordable options. A large part of these accommodations are either directly on the beach or just a short walk away.

To help you plan your next visit and to determine availability and price for the right accommodations, I’ve included a link below to assist. (For full disclosure this is an affiliate link. Best Times to Visit Alcudia Beach Mallorca

The best time to visit is, hands down, during the summer when the waters are calm and the weather is hot. This is also the busiest time, with literally millions of tourists descending on the island during this period. If you are looking for a less crowded and less hectic experience, my recommendation is to come during the off-season, May/June or September/October. The weather is still quite nice but with fewer crowds. Flights tend to be cheaper, there is a larger selection of accommodations available, shorter (or no) lineups, and lots of room for all of your activities.

Regardless of when you come and which activities you do, make sure to bring sunscreen and drink plenty of water. Especially during the high season, you want to protect yourself from sunburn, and you want to stay hydrated.
